Following a presidential order, Fort Cavazos has officially been renamed to Fort Hood again, marking another shift in the identity of the largest active-duty armored post in the U.S. military.

In 2023, Fort Hood, named after Confederate Gen. John Bell Hood, in Killeen was renamed Fort Cavazos in honor of Richard E. Cavazos, a Medal of Honor recipient and the nation's first Hispanic four-star general.
