CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Public Health Coastal Health District announced that West Nile Virus has been detected in a Chatham County mosquito population.

A Savannah mosquito sample tested positive for West Nile Virus on Monday. Chatham county officials are ramping up mosquito control and advising people to take precautions to keep themselves safe from bites.

A mosquito sample collected by Chatham County Mosquito Control has tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV), a spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) said. The positive sample was collected from the Svannah midtown area and is the first positive test in the Chatham County mosquito population this year.
