The New York Jets might sign a veteran tight end this offseason who previously worked for the same organization as Jets GM Darren Mougey.

The team has tapped Denver Broncos assistant general manager Darren Mougey as their next GM. It was reported a few days prior to the announcement, but it has happened officially. Like new head coach Aaron Glenn, Mougey will attempt to find better days for Gang Green moving forward.

Darren Mougey replaces Joe Douglas, who was fired as GM late in the 2024 season after failing to make the playoffs over a six-year tenure.

So it should come as no surprise that with the Broncos’ success, other teams have taken notice. Saturday afternoon, the New York Jets agreed in principle to make Darren Mougey their new general manager, a source confirmed to The Post.

Mougey, alongside head coach Aaron Glenn, was introduced at One Jets Drive on Monday during their introductory press conference. Glenn is a known commodity in New York as a former Jets player. Mougey is more of a new face. Plenty was learned about Mougey during his presser and he touched on numerous Jets-related topics at the event.

Mougey, 39, is the third-youngest GM in the NFL and joins the Jets after serving as the Broncos assistant GM since 2022. He has been with the Broncos since 2012, rising from scouting intern to assistant GM.

Mougey will replace Joe Douglas, who was fired on Nov. 19 after five-plus seasons as general manager. During his time with the Jets, Douglas registered a 32-62 record. Phil Savage was the Jets’ interim general manager for the final six games of the 2024 season.
