Musk, who has faced scrutiny for his extremist beliefs, has suggested angry reactions to the gesture are part of a Democratic-led hoax.

Grimes has said she’s “happy to denounce Nazi -ism” after her former partner Elon Musk was accused of giving a “Nazi salute” during an inauguration celebration for Donald Trump.

Grimes and Musk reportedly began dating in 2018 and had two children together before they separated in 2021. Despite that, Musk said in September of 2023 that he and Grimes had a third child together. She is reportedly currently dating DJ Anyma.

"No, Elon Musk did not do those salutes," New York Rep. Elise Stefanik told Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy when pressed before lawmakers at her confirmation hearing.

“It seems that Elon Musk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute,” the Anti-Defamation League wrote Monday in a statement on Musk’s own social media platform X, referring to Musk’s outstretched-arm movement that came as he was thanking his supporters.
