Since the beginning of the year, Texas has had 227 measles cases, including 29 hospitalizations and the death of one child, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services' latest numbers Tuesday. That is a jump from 202 cases on Friday. Most of the cases, 156, continue to be from Gaines County.

Measles outbreaks in West Texas and New Mexico now have more than 250 cases total. Two unvaccinated people have died from measles-related causes.
The Yale School of Medicine's Dr. Scott Roberts recommends that adults who were vaccinated before 1968 should consider getting a booster because the vaccine they received was less effective than the one available now. He said the same for health care workers born before 1957 who do not have proof of immunity.
