Frontier Airlines is seeing a huge spike in the number of applicants for its cobranded credit card. Meanwhile, talk about the next industry merger or alliance is swirling.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Frontier Airlines is adding two new routes, to Boston and Nashville, to its growing list of destinations from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The new flights to Boston Logan International Airport will launch May 22 and run three times per week, on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Spirit’s approval comes after the third merger attempt by Denver-based ULCC Frontier Airlines, part of a back-and-forth process between the two budget carriers that dates back to 2022 when Frontier made a run for Spirit but was usurped by JetBlue.

After filing for bankruptcy protection and going back and forth with Frontier Airlines — again — over a potential acquisition, Spirit Airlines has a new plan.

Spirit Airlines on Tuesday rejected Frontier Group’s acquisition offer, worth about $2.16 billion, saying the bid from its fellow ultra-low-cost carrier was less beneficial to shareholders than its ongoing reorganization plan.

Ultra-low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines is restoring three routes it suspended in 2019, including service from Cincinnati to the Dominican Republic.

Frontier Airlines has launched nonstop service from Bradley International Airport to Miami International Airport, according to the airlines. The service operates twice per week, according to Frontier. To celebrate the launch, Frontier is offering fares as low as $49.
