Nine former members of the Western Oregon University women’s basketball team say they experienced severe physical and emotional abuse during the 2023-24 season.
Nine former Western Oregon women’s basketball players filed a $28 million lawsuit against the university on Wednesday, in which they allege year-long abuse.
The suit alleges the NCAA Division II university allowed coaches to abuse players, then took away their scholarships in retaliation for speaking up.
Former players on the team during the 2023-2024 season said coach Jessica Peatross and assistant coach Dementrus Marlow abused and later retaliated against them.
