But for the past two weeks, the Black-owned bookshop has been packed wall-to-wall with supplies like bottles of water, hygiene products, clothes and food that are given away for free to locals impacted by the ongoing wildfire in the area.

Many who fled the flames were forced to make devastating choices about their pets. Some, terrified, hid or refused to leave. In other cases, their owners were away from home and could not safely return.

The Autry Museum of the American West reopened Jan. 16, with a special offer: Admission will be free through Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is Jan. 20. "The Autry thrives on its community and our hearts go out to all affected," the museum said in a statement.
