Trump threatened "very high" tariffs on Denmark amid Greenland dispute, raising fears of higher prices for Danish pharmaceuticals.

Addressing Trump's comments in an interview with Danish broadcaster TV2, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said she did not believe that the United States will use military or economic power to secure control over Greenland.

Trump Jr. reportedly claimed during his visit that the Danish people exhibit racism toward native Greenlanders. Frederiksen on Thursday addressed those accusations, saying: “You can’t say that Danes are racists across the board,” while acknowledging that racism against Greenlanders does exist.

OSLO - The Danish government has requested US President-elect Donald Trump for a phone conversation following his controversial remarks on Greenland, but no official response has been received yet, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in a press conference late Thursday.

A member of Greenland’s Parliament said Donald Trump Jr.’s visit to the island this week was “all staged” to make it look like Greenlanders supported President-elect Trump as he ramps up rhetoric about acquiring the Danish autonomous territory.
