The Dallas-Fort Worth area was hit with severe storms Tuesday that spawned an EF-1 tornado in Irving and, meteorologists confirmed Wednesday another EF-1 tornado and wind damage in Wise County. Residents in Irving — where the weather service confirmed a tornado touched down on Pioneer Drive between North MacArthur and North O’Connor boulevards — reported the wind shaking their homes.

NWS suggested tornadoes are possible, with wind gusts to 75 mph and isolated storms with large hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter.

In the aftermath of Tuesday's devastating storms, a second EF-1 tornado is believed to have occurred in North Texas, according to the National Weather Service.

A Tornado Watch is in effect for the major Dallas-Fort Worth counties, including Collin, Denton, Dallas, Ellis, Tarrant.

Tornado season is in spring because this is the time when air temperatures clash. The warm Gulf of Mexico winds mix with the cooler north winds, creating unstable atmospheric conditions which spawn tornadoes. The warmer it gets, the more likely it is for severe storms to form.

High temperatures settled close to normal for this time of year on this Thursday in North Texas. It is very breezy out, and that breeze will linger through Friday afternoon, with gusts as high as 30-35 mph for the metroplex.

Much of North Texas remained under a severe thunderstorm warning and a thunderstorm watch Tuesday morning as high winds and heavy rain pummeled the region. The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office extended the thunderstorm warning to 6:30 a.m., while the tornado watch was in effect until 11 a.m.
