Get the Air, get 16 GB. If you decide in 2-4 years you want the next new big thing sell the Air, and put the money toward the new thing. Also, speaking specifically about the Air, I think 24gb rarely makes sense. If you need more than 16gb, you probably need more than the Air. Either get the Pro, or just get 16gb.

I have seen a few questions about MBA M2 24GB and the answers were almost always "get a base MBP 14 instead". I am not convinced the higher performance MBP 14 can make up for the lost RAM.

The screen, sound and extra ports makes the pro the better choice for me. The m3 pro chip vs the m3 chip is better performance than the 24gb ram is compared to 18gb ram so I would go with the 18gb m3 pro MacBook Pro. I would not get a base mbp which is an air with a fan. I would get the mbp with pro chip.

16GB is just barely ok for serious software development
Jun 21, 2022 · I actually ran 8GB for a similar setup to this when I only had an M1 Macbook Air. It was quite miserable. I thought 16GB would be enough but it's just barely ok. I always have to think about closing apps to free up more memory. Configuring a custom Macbook with 32GB of RAM could delay shipping by weeks/months.

Aug 20, 2021 · You'll be good for many years with 16GB. Yes Even 8. If you’re in the states and maybe overseas, microcenter has them for $999. m1 256gb 16gb ram. I use an air 8GB model and it runs Docker along with other stuff just fine. Even XCode or Android Studio has been running smoothly. I have an MBA M1 16GB/512GB.

Go for the M3 Macbook Air with 16GB RAM. While the Macbook Pro has some advantages (battery, display), the extra RAM in the Air will give you a bigger performance boost for most tasks, making it a better long-term value. I have air m2 16GB, it's perfect, slim and ultra fast. Nothing to complain.
