Ala (also known as Ale, Ani, or Ali) is the revered Earth Mother Goddess in Igbo traditional religion (Odinani) of Nigeria. As the highest Alusi (deity), she embodies fertility, morality, creativity, and the earth itself. Considered the wife of the sky god Amadioha and daughter of the supreme being Chukwu, Ala acts as the moral guardian of Igbo law and customs (Omenala). Ala defines nso Ala (taboos/abominations), acting as a judge of human conduct. Violations against her include theft, murder, a
