20 Nov 2025: Indonesia’s Mount Semeru, the highest volcano on Java island, erupted on Wednesday, Nov 19, sending towering columns of ash and scorching clouds of gas, rock and lava up to seven kilometres down its slopes. Authorities raised the alert to the highest level and evacuated more than 300 residents from at-risk villages in Lumajang. The Kilauea volcano on Hawaii Island continued its intermittent eruption Tuesday, shooting lava 400 feet into the air. Video showed the molten rock flowing down Kilauea as smoke fills the air. The U.S. Geological Survey said the eruption stayed within the volcano’s caldera in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This marks the 37th time Kilauea has shot lava since December 2024. | PBS NewsHour
